Epic Fail of the Day (month... YEAR)

You know those "organizations" that were supposed to be picking up our donated items...?

...yeah... they never did.

I have an apartment full of furniture that HAS TO GO because I don't need it and can't take it with me, and the old landlord doesn't want it in there, but the organizations (not individual people... ORGANIZATIONS) could not find their way out of a paper bag to come and get it.

Now, because we're facing the "crunch" we have to take it all to the only one open tomorrow when we have the truck and also somehow move it because these organizations decided to collectively drop the ball. The worst part was that it wasn't just ONE organization but a bunch of them... not a single charitable organization that professed to desperately wanting these items managed to book a time to come get it even though they have the trucks and the people... it was the MANAGEMENT in these offices (paid positions, not volunteer!) that failed to make it happen.

The furniture we were donating that now will sit on the curb?

New and would have helped a bunch of people...

... all because of "red tape" that prevented it from being donated.

Epic fail, Sudbury, epic fail.

The Legacy - That's it, I'm done.

After two fan seasons I'm stepping down and if another fan ficcer wants to pick up where I left off, they can if they want. I may even help with a chapter or two, but the sheer amount of work that went into something that I did for free has taken its toll on me. It was incredible and rewarding to see the traffic it generated and read all the feedback. Gave me this incredible rush and feeling that told me that people like what I write.

But I am exhausted and I have another fic project that I'd like to work on that may be on the same scale as this one. A part of the Who universe left unexplored and I want to explore it.

I have two chapters left of the regular fan season and two specials. One of those "specials" will be a two parter in the spirit of The End of Time, and it will mean the same thing... the version of the Doctor (Susan) that I have been writing which is Susan's 2nd incarnation will regenerate and become a new Doctor (er... Susan) and my time with the Legacy will be over.

... And thanks to a few debt lawyers the following has been *personally* confirmed by me... not by second hand, rumour, or hearsay.

I was recently called by a company called "ARC Collections" about my really old student loan that I paid off,in full, a *long* time ago claiming that I still owed $6000-ish on it. I was a bit offput and rather suspicious, and asked, firstly, if that was the case then why have I not seen anything in relation to it from the National Student Loans Center or the originating bank from which I borrowed the money (ie: the Royal Bank). She didn't even answer the question, she quickly moved to asking how I would arrange to pay the debt. I told her I didn't acknowledge the debt (key word here!) and that if she could please confirm by mailing me all information on said debt, I would look it over and take it to a professional financial and debt advisor to doublecheck.

She very quickly leaped to saying that she had called where I work and that Industrial Alliance had said that I don't work for them (well, duh... I don't... per se... it's not that I'm a salaried employee, I have a contractual agreement as an insurance advisor to be able to sell their products should a client deem IA as their best option...). I demanded to know why she would have done that first when she clearly had my phone number as we were conversing on it, and she demanded an income statement so that we could come to an agreement on how I would pay the loan and threatened to send a collector to my door to "repossess" my car (which I don't own... it's my Dad's) as well as anything else of worth to settle the accounts.

First, I paid it off a long time ago and I already told her that I wasn't acknowledging a thing until she provided written proof of the debt, in great detail, so that I could confirm it.
Second, never, ever threaten me with an action outside a legal bound when it was obvious that she had gone through the bother to find out what I do for a living as it not only wrecked her credibility, but also made her look like a massive idiot.

I may be in insurance, but I started with personal & financial end of said insurance, which deals directly with CFP's (Certified Financial Planners) and accountants on a DAILY BASIS... nor someone who is midway through a Bachelor of COMMERCE. I may not know everything there is to know, but I have fantastic resources that, when combined, do know everything.

Sure enough, she has called me (and I have ignored her calls, instead letting them be recorded in my voicemail, which on a Blackberry also voiceprints and types the message into my email inbox, with a trace on time, origination, etc) for the past three weeks but I have not received a single piece of paperwork to prove their claim or their identity. They haven't even so much as sent me a letter, demanding or otherwise... Pretty shady if you ask me.

So, finally annoyed to the point of losing it; I called around to a few reputable debt consolidation agencies and the Better Business Bureau. Sure enough, not only is ARC Collections Agency under financial review (ie: they're in major trouble), but there are so many legitimate claims against them that the debt lawyer is kinda surprised they're still in business.

Which basically means ARC is the skinny hair away from having their license pulled and are simply desperate and don't care if what they're doing is legal or not so they're calling around on debts that have been paid off, settled, etc. in the efforts to save their own arses.

So, bottom line: If this particular company calls you, be calm. Don't acknowledge a thing until they can prove every red cent in writing and, for pete's sake, DOUBLE CHECK it, don't just take their word for it because they will lie and say anything to separate you from your money.

Secondly, if you get called from them and you do have a debt but are currently paying on it, don't listen to ARC but go back to the agency/lender that you borrowed the money from and find out what is going on.

Making a new online home...

Well, now that Aion Online is free, I managed to yank my Dad and Andrew into it. With that new support, we have a Legion (which is already Level 2, whoo!) that is, unsurprisingly, called "House La Rune".

We already have our own cape and now our own website and forum, although it's still growing and likely will for quite some time.

Elliot Lake Disaster

Hello everyone,

As everyone knows Andrew and I used to live in Elliot Lake, Ontario, Canada so the breaking news regarding the Algo Centre Mall is rather close to us. The public library, our bank as well as Andrew's place of work were all in that mall, as well as our main grocery store.

The entry/exits to these places were literally underneath where the roof collapsed.

I do have a few friends who still live in Elliot Lake, but thankfully they are all right. One was supposed to be in the mall, but was not and so was safe at home when it happened.

If anyone is wondering what happened to me, we are watching the news.

Not above begging...

I keep seeing these fantastic banners on people's fics and I really, really want one for a few of mine especially now that Fanfiction.net is allowing covers as well.

So, I'm not above begging as I know there are a few people who are into fan art and graphics on my friend's list.

I'll always give full credit where credit is due.

In particular I would love a cover/banner for each season of The Legacy, and anything anyone wants to throw in on that. It's sort of my baby.

I also would love, for those not into Doctor Who, covers for the Blue Star cycle for my Dragonlance stuff and maybe a seaQuest related banner for the fan series I did there.

But, at this point, I'll take what I can get.

My profiles are as follows and, like I said, anything would be great. Go crazy! I'll even take art for the inside of the stories as AO3 does that too.

My head-canon with Doctor Who

This is more of a rant-meets-essay and, I will try to organize my thoughts as best as possible. But, as they say, the secret to good writing isn't the writer, it's the editor and I'm by far not an editor... I'm only a writer. I have attempted to put the majority of it behind LJ cuts so that I don't overwhelm your friend's/reading pages.

First the "What I've seen of the fandom in general" so we're all on the same page:

Okay, now that's out of the way, into the nitty gritty of what I feel is canon and what isn't. Some people may not agree, but I have no issues with that. That's why the fandom is so fantastic, as Nine would say... there's so much to it that it's impossible to have all of it in canon at once. Or maybe we can... the show is about Time Travel, after all...

1) The Doctor's rumoured "half-human" ancestry.

My RP group and I play Rifts and mostly other games from Palladium.

I like Doctor Who, so I went looking online for a reasonable accurate take on the Time Lord to play. While I found a few good ones, I was struck by how often it always ended up being a "Time Lord RCC". I had to scratch my head at this because in Classic Who it's been stated over and over and over again that while all (or most) Time Lords are Gallifreyan, not all Gallifreyans "get" to be Time Lords, which means that there is no Time Lord RCC, and if they ever did make something for Palladium, it certainly wouldn't be an RCC but an OCC that you can take on top of your species/race as your occupation.

In other words, kind of like Jedi...

However, with a huge, huge, HUGE cultural caveat, and to some extent, species caveat.

So, with some research I managed to reasonably create the Gallifreyan as a base species (like that of Elf, Dwarf, etc. in Palladium Fantasy... only for Rifts, Palladium Fantasy and others...). I haven't started on the Time Lord OCC yet as I still have more research I want to do to make sure I fairly show the abilities and limits of the character without it being over or under powered.

On the other hand, if I wanted to play "just a Gallifreyan" and take any other OCC than Time Lord I now can.

I did notice something... if we want to compare fictional culture to fictional culture.

Gallifrey (Doctor Who) = Drow (D&D), only a heck of a lot less evil. Still douche-y, but not evil... Well, unless you count what eventually happened in "The End of Time" and the Time War...

And if that's the case, does that make the Doctor the Whovian version of Drizzt?

Paleo Diet - moving into it

While I have read numerous accounts about how quickly weight loss happens on the Paleo diet, I will admit it's not the reason I'm moving towards changing my usual diet to a modified Paleo diet.

Granted the weight loss is a bonus... but what really attracts me to it is the lack of chemicals and other crap in the food on that particular diet.

I am hyper-sensitive to almost every or all food additives and preservatives, as well as intolerant of some grains and starches. The best way to keep myself from being sick most of the time seemed logical - adopt a mostly Paleo diet and stick to it.

I won't be a nut about it... there will be times when I "slip" sideways and not strictly adhere to it. Those times being when I am at someone else's house and, if they aren't aware of the dietary restriction, they cook a perfectly good meal being the main one. Unless, of course, that meal is loaded with preservative laden crap, such as cheese slices and other processed foods at which point I will have to politely decline (or not so politely decline, depending on the person and how pushy/belligerent they are), as well as go out of my way to avoid potatoes... which for some reason I can't stomach. I like them, they don't like me kind of problem, or the rare girls night out when the chocolate is going around...

The only thing I refuse to give up is coffee, tea and dark chocolate and some diary (because black tea = ick).

So the only things allowed in my palate:

Meat – GRASS-FED, not grain-fed…which causes the same problem in animals as they do in humans
Fowl - chicken, duck, hen, turkey…things with wings that (try to) fly.
Fish – wild fish, not farmed fish, as mercury and other toxins can be an issue
Eggs - look for Omega-3 enriched eggs
Vegetables – as long as they’re not deep fried, eat as many as you want
Oils – olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil – think natural
Fruits – have natural sugar, and can be higher in calories, so limit if you’re trying to lose weight
Nuts – high in calories, so they’re good for a snack, but don’t eat bags and bags of them
Seeds - same as nuts, can be high in calories
Tubers – sweet potatoes, yams. Higher in calories and carbs, so these are good for right after a workout to replenish glycogen levels.

But, since I am doing a modified Paleo, I can also eat, but not as often as the above and not as freely as the above

Diary
Coffee/tea - which ironically falls under the vegetables and, I think, with coffee a type of bean anyway, so I'm all good here too!
Chocolate, particularly my downfall which is pure dark chocolate. Not big on the too sweet milk or the really ow-sweet heresy of white chocolate... oh wait, chocolate comes from the cocoa bean anyway...
Rice & wild rice, which is a grain and isn't really part of the paleo diet, but in limited amounts is all right, especially if wild or brown.

What I will avoid, but not beat myself up if I end up having it in limited amounts and extremely rarely

Processed sugars... which means no more candy & pop, or juices with more added sugar than juice.
Processed grains, including wheat, corn and rye products especially if they involved the word "gluten"... I guess this means that Valerie will be able to eat at our place more often...
Potatoes... mostly because I can't eat them anyway.

Things I will not touch under any circumstances

Over-processed foods filled with ingredients I cannot pronounce... or, since I can pronounce some wicked complicated words... ingredients my grandmother can't.
"Fake" foods that are flat out not just over processed but made from chemicals or something that wasn't meant to be food in the first place.

Hopefully, my friends and family who are reading this will not only respect my choice but also support it. And Andrew... I'm sorry as this will effect what is bought and brought into our house in the future, however, I think you'll like the overall effect on me as well as you in the long run as it's been proven that the Paleo diet is perfect for those with Type 2 Diabetes and for keeping the blood sugar under control.

An unexpected fannish gift

My husband (who goes by "Captain Jack" and I don't mean Sparrow!) and another person who wishes not to be named decided to get together and make me a website for The Legacy. This other person loves fan fiction, and Doctor Who, but according to them can't write it worth a damn. I haven't read anything by them, so I can't say if they can or can't write, but they're fantastic at coding, research and creating page entries.

So, "Jack" hosted the site and account, and this other person built the site and is still in the process of building it. I know it's weebly, which means it uses What-You-See encoding, but some people out there, even given that kind of thing, have a certain knack for throwing together workable websites that match the content to a "T" while others don't. And this person has that knack!

As a fandom gift for the holidays, I'd have to say this was unexpected, but welcome and utterly fantastic. I don't think I would have made one site for ONE fic, but I have to admit that The Legacy, as the web-writer points out on the homepage, is a bit bigger than I expected it to be in the end anyway. If and when I decide to hang up the mantle, I hope that perhaps another will pick it up again and take it how they see it going after me. It'd suck to hang up the mantle (because it's already killing me as it is - I think I fully understand how much work goes into a TV Series and all I'm doing is the prose)

Title: The Legacy - Season Two (3/16)
Chapter Title: Chapter Three - Lone Star
Genre: AU season, written in narrative prose vs. script format, chapters take the form of individual episodes in their entirety.
Rating: Teen-ish. Nothing explicit, but sometimes there is swearing. Rare, but sometimes there.
Fic Summary: Fan Series, narrative prose based. After the 13th Doctor's death, another rose to take up his legacy and the TARDIS. This is the story of Susan Foreman and her life after she became the Doctor in her 2nd incarnation.
Chapter Summary: When the TARDIS lands in 1880's Texas the Doctor has to solve a series of murder before the town's population is wiped from existence.
